I've been worrying about the 3D re-release of Star Wars (Phantom Menace is set to be in theatres February of next year) but this interview the Attack of the Show did with George Lucas makes me feel a little better about it
I appreciate that they've waited until the right people could work on it. It sounds like the 3D will enhance the story rather than distract from it.
I don't really care to see the prequels in 3D, but I think it could potentially be very amazing to see the original trilogy in a different way. Plus, this could open up the Star Wars universe to a whole new generation/group of fans.
Of course there will be a lot of bitter (but also well deserved) protest to this after the prequels. They affected nerd culture [see videos below] to such a degree that I can't see how there wouldn't be people who are upset about this. But, I'm trying to be hopeful; I think it's possible for the 3D versions to captivate and inspire the audience to a higher degree than ever before.
Finally, some of the best prequel rants:
Patton Oswalt
Brian Posehn
